Drone water damage repair is a race against corrosion. The moment a drone goes into a lake, a pool or the surf, water bridges the main board and the battery contacts; every second it stays powered — and every attempt to turn it on afterwards — pushes current through wet circuits and eats the copper. If your aircraft just went in: pull the battery, do not press the power button, do not put it in rice, and ship it to us as soon as it is dry to the touch. We disassemble it to the board, clean it ultrasonically, treat the corrosion and replace the components that already failed. Liquid repairs are a best-effort job, so we quote a not-to-exceed price and tell you honestly if the aircraft cannot be saved.

Symptoms we see
- aircraft went into water and will not power on
- powers on but the camera, gimbal or motors act erratically
- corrosion visible on the battery contacts or ports
- intermittent faults that started after a wet flight
What usually causes it
- electrolytic corrosion on the main board and connectors
- mineral or salt residue bridging board traces
- water inside motors and the gimbal
- shorted battery cells — a safety issue, not just a repair issue
Check this before you ship
- do not try to power it on — every power-up with water inside causes more corrosion
- remove the battery immediately and keep it outside, away from anything flammable
- do not put it in rice or heat it; let it air-dry and ship it as soon as possible
- tell us whether it was fresh, salt or pool water — it changes the cleaning approach
How we repair it
We disassemble the aircraft, ultrasonically clean the boards, treat corrosion and replace failed components at board level. Liquid repairs are a best-effort attempt: we quote a not-to-exceed price and tell you honestly if it cannot be saved.
Fresh water, pool water and salt water behave differently: salt and pool chemicals keep corroding after the board dries, so those aircraft get a more aggressive clean and a longer inspection. We check the gimbal motors, the vision sensors and the battery contacts separately, because water that never reached the main board often sits in a gimbal motor and shows up as a gimbal fault a week later.
What it costs and how long it takes
Diagnosis is free. We send a written, itemized quote before any work; no parts are ordered and nothing is opened until you approve it. Most repairs are priced flat-rate so the written quote is the full cost; complex board-level work may be quoted hourly, always before it starts.
Most common repairs are completed within days of quote approval, parts availability permitting. You get a timeline with your quote.
Every repair is covered by our 90-day limited repair warranty on the specific part and workmanship we repaired.
Repair or replace?
A fresh-water dunk caught quickly is often a straightforward clean plus one or two components. Salt water that sat for days, or an aircraft that was powered up repeatedly while wet, can leave the main board beyond economic repair even when the shell looks fine. We tell you which it is after the free inspection, and if the answer is no, we will say so rather than sell you a repair. We can also make an offer on the aircraft for parts if you would rather upgrade.
Models we see most for this fault
- DJI Mini 4 Pro repair — the 3-axis gimbal and its ribbon cable sit exposed under the nose and take the hit in a nose-first crash
- DJI Mini 3 repair — no forward obstacle sensing, so tree and wall strikes are common and usually break the gimbal first
- DJI Air 3 repair — antennas routed through the arms — a snapped rear arm often means a lost-link or weak-signal fault as well
- DJI Air 2S repair — no side obstacle sensing — side strikes snap arms and crack the shell
- DJI Mavic 3 repair — the large Hasselblad gimbal reports motor overload after even moderate impacts
- DJI Mavic 4 Pro repair — the 360° rotating gimbal has more range of motion and more ways to be forced past its limits in a crash
- DJI Avata 2 repair — ducted prop guards crack and the ducts deform in wall strikes, unbalancing the props
- DJI FPV repair — arms snap at the frame in high-speed crashes
Mail it in or drop it off
- Mail-in from anywhere in the U.S. — request a quote, get your RMA number and shipping instructions, pack the aircraft with two inches of padding and the RMA number inside the box (packing checklist).
- Batteries: ship at or below 30% charge, ground only, no more than two spares, never a swollen or damaged pack — see the battery shipping guide.
- Local drop-off by appointment in Cumming, GA (north metro Atlanta) — see drop-off details.
Common questions
Does the 90-day repair warranty cover water damage repairs?
The limited warranty covers the specific part and workmanship we repaired; water and contamination damage is excluded, which is why liquid repairs are quoted as a best-effort, not-to-exceed job and explained before you approve.
Can you recover the footage on my drone after a water landing?
We can try to retrieve the memory card, but we do not guarantee preservation of flight logs, photos or video on any repair.
Is the battery safe to use after a water landing?
Treat it as damaged. A lithium pack that has been submerged can short internally and swell or heat days later. Keep it away from anything flammable and do not ship it; we will advise on disposal.
